July 18, 2015

Out-of-town conventions, family reunions, and other summer plans led to a smaller group meeting today.  While we were happy to not have rain, we were also happy to have the air conditioner!  9 Transit Traders were present.  9 traded, 1 by proxy.

We began with announcements and news, including the lovely article published in the Franklin Times-Herald about Marilyn Karns' dedication to the Oil City Arts Council.  Marilyn, it is great to see you celebrated!

Sadly, we also shared the news about Mary Morgan's passing.  Owner of the Mosaic Cafe in Oil City, an Artist, and a Friend to the Group, she will be greatly missed.  There will be an End of Life Celebration at the Mosaic Cafe on Saturday, August 8th; more details to come.

We did our show and tell of our challenges from the last meeting - the Paper Molding Technique and at least (1) ATC using the supplies from "Sue's Kit."  Different perspectives, new mediums, and the creative rejuvenation of an old medium were shared as we passed the ATCs around.  It is so interesting to see what each person comes up with!

Sue helped us find another use for our embossing folders for today's demonstration and workshop.  We made rubbings using colored pencils on either paper or "deli paper."  We also made impressions on foil with our embossing folders.  It was so innovative!  Thank you Sue!

We did our Calendar Trades for the months of July and August.  We then did our Regular Trade and JAMS.

Several years ago, we made ATCs with backgrounds only and traded them.  Then we had a challenge to "finish" the ATC for the next meeting.  This was very popular and it was agreed upon to do it again.  The Challenge this time is to make up to (18) ATCs that are only Backgrounds to trade and we will then trade and finish them for the following meeting(s).  Suggestions include to make (2) full 8.5 x 11 in. sheets of a design and then you will have enough for 20 ATCs.

Sue has volunteered to do another demonstration and workshop - Gelli Plate Printing.  She will bring most of the necessary supplies including some copy paper and deli paper - "two of the best things to use."  She recommends "Bring some paper to play with.  Book pages, music, and maps are fun to print on.  And stencils are fun, too.  If you have a favorite stencil, bring it along."

The next meeting will be on Saturday, September 19th, at 1pm at the Transit Building.

Please bring the following:

*Paper &/or Stencils for the next Demonstration/Workshop (see above)
*Challenge #1:  (1) ATC with the Rubbing of the Embossing Folder Technique
*Challenge #2:  Up to (18) Background (only) ATCs to trade (see above)
*(1) September and (1) October ATC for the Calendar Trade
*Up to (18) ATCs for the Regular Trade
*JAMS

Stay Cool!
