November 8, 2014

We had a full house!  As we transition from fall to winter (yes, some people were wearing gloves outside), 17 of us gathered in the Transit Building.  It is always so lovely to see each other and to also meet new people.  We had 2 new members; welcome!  14 Artists traded.

As we approach the end of the year, we have completed our Birthday ATC exchanges.  Happy Birthday to November and December!

We did our Show and Tells of the (3) Challenges:  Gelatos, Wallpaper from Marilyn, and Punches.  Some people combined the techniques.  As I have said before, such creativity!

Nancy L. did a demonstration and workshop on a technique involving rubber bands and brayers.  Here are the steps:
If you can, remove the roller on your brayer.
Wrap several rubber bands of varying widths around the roller.
Reattach the roller.
Select ink pads to use (the multi-colored ones are great for this!).
Roll your brayer in the ink and then roll on the paper.
The patterns were so fun!
Thank you Nancy!

See a full description of the Rubber Band Brayer Technique here.

At the same time, we did our Stamp-A-Round using stamps with words or sentiments.

For the last couple of years, we have had one annual challenge.  For 2014, it was creating a Birthday ATC for each member.  For 2015, it will be creating a Calendar of ATCs.  Each member, if you so choose, will design (1) ATC for each month.  At the meeting, we will do a "blind trade" and select our ATCs by only being able to see the back of each one.  By the end of the year, each member should have (12) ATCs - each one representing a month of the year.  As our meetings are every other month, we will be trading (2) months at a time.  We decided that there are "no rules" - meaning you do not have to put the name of the month on the ATC or an actual calendar.  (Please put your name on the back though as well as the other details).  You can interpret the month however you like.  Great idea Artists!

We have (4) Challenges for next time:
-Make an ATC using the inside of an envelope
-Make an ATC with a stamped word/sentiment from the Stamp-A-Round
-Make an ATC with the rubber bands/brayer technique
-Make (1) January and (1) February ATC for the 2015 Calendar (see above)

Linda will do a workshop and demonstration for the next meeting which will be on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1pm at the Transit Building.

So, for next time, please bring:  The (4) Challenges listed above, your ATCs to trade, and your JAMS.

Happy Holidays!  Stay Warm!
